![]() If you’re the outdoor type, you need to make sure you’re taking care to protect your skin from the sun, while enjoying the warm weather and your favourite pastime. According to the UK Skin Cancer Working Party, if you have an outdoor occupation or pastime, whether that’s gardening, fishing, golfing and skiing, you are particularly at risk. If it’s a beautiful sunny day, it’s all too easy to rush out of the house and get started on the weeding, or zip out onto the golf course without a thought for your skin.
But, it’s time to start thinking about the damage those harmful rays could be doing if you aren’t using sun protection! With rates of skin cancer increasing faster than any other cancer in the UK, being aware of the facts has never been so important. According to the Skin Cancer Working Party, individuals who develop skin cancer do not always have a history of deliberate sunbathing. Those who have an outdoor occupation and or recreation such as fishing, sailing or golfing are also at risk and must learn to protect their skin. You do not need to be sat in the sun to get burnt. Water can reflect a fair amount of sunlight and even on cloudy days or bright cool days the skin can become damaged by the UV rays.
Top tip: Keep your sun protection ‘kit’ (sun cream, hat, water) near your back door or somewhere that will catch your eye next time you head out for some outdoor fun. Apply the enthusiasm you have for the great outdoors to your skin too!
